We have a gradual admissions procedure over the first 1-2 weeks of your child's time here with us. On their very first day, we ask them to attend for just 1 hour and for a parent or trusted adult to stay with them. This is so they feel secure in their new environment and assured that they have not been 'left'. It is likely that it will be the same on day 2, however your child's key worker will speak to you about how they are settling and whether it is appropriate to leave them for a short while. Moving on from this, we will build up their time spent at nursery as quickly as is suitable for your child - all children are different and settle at different rates.
Some children need a longer settling in period and we are flexible in our approach. We have a great deal of experience in settling children and work together with you to achieve a smooth start.
Some children starting will have been to playgroup before, others may not of, but for all of them Highters Heath Nursery will be a new experience. New situations can be challenging and fun, but exhausting. You may even find they don’t want to talk with you about all the lovely things they’ve done. This is entirely normal so don't be too disheartened if they don't answer your questions! You can always look on Tapestry to see what they have been up to in school. Staff are always willing to talk with you about how your child is doing, so do have a quick word with them at the beginning or end of the session. If you feel you need more time, you can ask for a separate appointment.
